Mick Jaeger Can’t Get No Satisfaction!

Though he tries, and he tries, he just can’t get none. LOL, welcome to Monday. Today, I am going to introduce you to Mick Jaeger. He is the cutest, silliest, puppy still really. But, he can’t get no satisfaction without his forever home.

Hi, my name is Jaeger, pronounced Yaeger with a long a. My name used to be Bandit, when WAG rescued me from Lake City. A very nice college student very quickly took me into foster care and we had the most amazing bond. He re-named me, Jaeger. We were best of friends, and he started training me. Then, unfortunately, he got sick, and he had to leave Florida to go back home with his parents, and could not take me with him. He never taught me to leash walk. I walked off-leash with him, but at WAG I have to learn to walk on the leash. This has been my biggest challenge, but I am getting so much better. I am really super cute, and I love to play in the water. Not so much a pool, but the hose is to die for. I do seem to have some reactivity, to another dog that I just don’t really like so much. If the volunteers ignore me, when I am being a stinker, I get the hint. Who wants to be ignored, boo. I weigh 40 lbs and I am house-trained. I have been neutered and had all of my shots. That means I am all ready to go home with you today and be your new best friend. I love to sing in the shower, just check out my photos below to see. If you would like to meet me, I surely would love to meet you too. Please call Williston Animal Group at 352-528-9888 to make an appointment. I can’t wait!

2 Foster Fails and One Adoption!

Good morning! What is a foster failure, anyway? A foster failure is when one of WAG’s foster parents decides to adopt the dog they have been fostering. We had two in two days! What a great Valentine’s Day gift!

Copper Top and Moki were both adopted by their foster parents. You have probably read about Copper Top here on the blog before. Moki was never featured. She is an elderly dog that was picked up as a stray in Levy County and never claimed. One of our volunteers decided to foster her at least through the cold nights, as it is harder on elder dogs, and he fell in love with her and adopted her.

Yesterday, also not featured here yet, Baby was adopted. Baby came to us when she was picked up as a stray via the city.

Happy Tails to all of these awesome dogs!

WAG is having an adoption event Saturday, February 19th from 10-2 at the beautiful new Tractor Supply in Williston, Florida. We will have some of our dogs in attendance, Glen, Jackson, Kinley, and Ashley. Plus pictures and bios of all of our available dogs.

We need volunteers, fosters, and sponsors! If you would like to learn about the ways you can help WAG, visit or Help Wanted page.

Meet Ms. Maggy Mae!

OK, so her name is just Maggy, but I like Maggy Mae. Below you will see two very short videos of Ms. Maggy uploaded by me today.

Ms. Maggy is 2 1/2 years old, and only 47 pounds. She is a lovely size, and a real sweet heart. She walks lovely on the leash, and loves to snuggle. She apparently does not like cats, and I believe they are going to introduce her to another dog to see how she does. As you will see she is very photogenic, and she loves to ride in the car and behaves quite well in the car. Please ask about the adoption fee when you call.

If you would like to meet Ms. Maggy call Williston Animal Group at 352-528-9888 or you can email at info@willistonanimalgroup.com

While you are meeting Ms. Maggy be sure and ask about our volunteer program. If you would like to help us rescue more dogs from the community shelter, you can donate to WAG via Paypal at willistonanimalgroup.com

How Hot is Too Hot for Your Dog?

Hello, and welcome to the Dog Days of Summer! Williston Animal Group is located in Williston, FL and trust me it is hot here in July, August, and even September.

Do you know where the phrase, Dog Days of Summer, came from? Click here to read all about it. You may be surprised.

Williston Animal Group likes to spend some time bringing awareness to topics that may concern dog owners. Obviously, not letting your dog get too hot is probably not something you want to do.

A dog can’t tell you when they’re too hot. Or, can they? There are some very subtle signs that you need to watch out for to make sure your pooch is safe from Heat Stroke. Dogs can get Heat Stroke just as humans can, and it is a very dangerous issue for both. Heat Stroke can cause internal organs to fail in both dogs and humans. If a dog’s internal temperature gets to 105 degrees F, that is Heat Stroke. If you wanted to check your dog’s temperature you would need a rectal thermometer. Even in temperatures of 80 degrees, especially with humidity, can be too hot for your dog to exercise. If you are uncomfortable, so are they.

There are 3 very good videos below. One will explain Heat Stroke, the second protect your dog’s paws, and the last one is just super cute beagles showing you how to cool off your dog. WAG did not make any of these videos, nor have we tried any of the products mentioned. There is a lot of good information and I urge you to watch them. For example, did you know dogs with smooshed noses, or shorter snouts, over heat quicker than other dogs. Also, dogs do not sweat through their skin, so shaving their hair is not all that helpful. I also did not know that dogs lose heat through their feet, but it does make sense. Do the hand test when seeing if the ground is too hot for your dog. Even grass can get too hot in certain parts of the day. Place your hand on the ground and if you can keep your hand there for 10 seconds without discomfort, then it is probably safe for your dog to walk on.

Enjoy!

If you would like to meet any of our adoptable dogs, or would like to ask about volunteering for WAG, please call 352-525-9888 or you can email us at info@willistonanimalgroup.com We would love to have you volunteer!
