WAG Is Looking For A Medical Dog Foster For Scarlett!

Happy Humpday! I hope everyone is staying healthy in this new year. Speaking of healthy, Williston Animal Group is looking for fosters specifically for a medical needs dog in our care. All of our fosters are currently fostering heartworm-positive dogs through their treatment. Without medical fosters, we can not rescue more dogs that have special medical requirements.

Scarlett has been with WAG for over 6 months. As with all dogs we take in most of the time we do not know their back history. It was quickly noted that while Scarlett is very affectionate with humans she does not care for other dogs, and they do not care for her either. She exhibited high stress and anxiety while in the paddock and the kennel, plus leash reactivity. Scarlett had been making huge progress on her leash reactivity, and manners. But, due to her high levels of running the fence line while in the paddock she has managed to tear her ACL. She also was having digestive issues, and an abdominal X-ray was ordered. At that time it was noted that she was full of buckshot in her belly. This means at some point in her life she had been shot. She will be seeing an Internist soon to be sure she doesn’t have permanent damage. She is now on a special diet with Probiotics which has helped to heal her stomach issues. She is receiving cold laser therapy given by one of our volunteers, light leash walk only, no other exercise, and Trazodone to help keep her calm. There are some new, and cute pictures of Scarlett below.

We are very much hoping to find a Medical Foster for her so she can be more relaxed and calm not at the kennel. She is approximately 2 years old and weighs about 50 pounds.

WAG will pay all the fees for Scarlett’s care, and food. In order to be eligible to be a Medical Foster for Scarlett, the following requirements must be met.

  1. Make sure Scarlett gets all medications and treatments that she needs, on time.
  2. Make sure Scarlett goes to all of her medical appointments.
  3. Follow all diet, exercise limitations, and any other doctor orders given by the Vet.
  4. If at anytime the medical foster can not meet these guidelines they must contact WAG immediately at 352-528-9888.
  5. Scarlett needs to be the only pet in the home and introduction to other pets should not be done without WAG’s approval.
  6. She can leash walk only slowly and for short distances to potty and get some exercise. She can not go to a dog park, or be allowed to freely run in a fenced yard, or any yard.
  7. The foster will hopefully be home most of the time, but Scarlett should be crated or put in a kennel when the foster is not at home to monitor her activity.
  8. All of this will be explained when to call to make an appointment to meet Scarlett and discuss being her foster parent.
  9. You should live close enough to Williston, Florida to be able to transport Scarlett to any doctor visits, or treatments she would need.
